No real-money poker directory is published here.

An overseas licence, NZD balance or accessible website is not treated as New Zealand authorisation. Use the current DIA guidance while the framework is implemented.

Is online poker in NZ legal today?

To check whether online poker is legal in NZ on a particular site, start with DIA’s online gambling guidance. Until 1 December 2026, online casinos that served New Zealand before 1 May 2026 may continue while licensing begins, and they must not advertise to New Zealanders. Online poker needs its own product and eligibility check. We do not publish offshore poker promotions or imply that an overseas licence is New Zealand approval. The DIA guidance is the starting point while the online casino framework is being implemented.

Cash games and tournaments

A cash table uses blinds, a buy-in range and a rake schedule. A tournament normally has an entry amount, a fee and rising blinds. Re-entry and late registration can increase the total you spend. Read the rules before joining rather than relying on the advertised prize pool.

Poker demos are not a cash offer

A virtual-balance game has no withdrawable winnings. Video poker, poker-themed slots and player-versus-player poker are different products; a card image in a game lobby does not make them equivalent.

Practical checks

Check the exact operator, permitted location, account terms and complaint route. A site accepting NZD is not proof of local authorisation. We will only add directory entries when a primary source supports their status and the listing is appropriate under current rules.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play online poker legally in NZ?

It depends on the site and the product; the Department of Internal Affairs’ online gambling guidance is the starting point in New Zealand. Until 1 December 2026, online casinos that served New Zealand before 1 May 2026 may continue while licensing begins, but they must not advertise to New Zealanders. Online poker needs its own product and eligibility check, and an overseas licence is not New Zealand approval.

Is a poker site that accepts NZD licensed in New Zealand?

Not necessarily: a site accepting NZD is not proof of local authorisation in New Zealand. Check the exact operator, permitted location, account terms and complaint route. A foreign licence does not amount to New Zealand approval, and whether a given poker site is legal in NZ can change once licences are issued under the new online casino framework.

What is the difference between poker cash games and tournaments?

A cash table uses blinds, a buy-in range and a rake schedule, while a tournament normally has an entry amount, a fee and rising blinds. For New Zealand players, re-entry and late registration can increase the total spent on a tournament. Read the rules before joining rather than relying on the advertised prize pool.

Do free poker demo games pay out real money in NZ?

No. A virtual-balance poker game has no withdrawable winnings, so a demo is not a cash offer in New Zealand. Video poker, poker-themed slots and player-versus-player poker are also different products, and a card image in a game lobby does not make them equivalent. Demo credits cannot be deposited, withdrawn or exchanged for money.
